I’m an engineer by birth. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t going to be an engineer. Like many other budding engineers I took stuff apart at home when I was young, and there were always bits left over when (if) I put them back together. Imagining things and building them from whatever is available has always been what I do.

Just get off one bike and onto another. Varying tilt makes it hard to calculate the vector angles. Part of our test system display. We need a name to match the magic. As I’ve been reminded by messages from some of you, it’s been too long since we let you know our progress and plans. [...]

(Rollover images to see the captions) We visited the big European bike trade exhibition, Eurobike, in Germany about 10 days ago. There was no sign of the recession here – the exhibition was packed, with every corner and every bit of space occupied by exhibitors, and huge crowds attending every day. We were there for [...]

The processing algorithm for the power meter is one of the critical parts of the system. The algorithm is the sequence of mathematical steps to calculate torque and power figures from the various sensor measurements. It’s relatively simple to put together a procedure to do this – as long as all the measurements are perfect. [...]

It feels like we’ve found about [...]

Welcome to the Brim blog! We plan to use this to let you know how we’re doing, to keep you up to date with what’s happening around the Brim Brothers development labs, and generally to waffle on about anything on our minds. Actually, at this stage the “labs” are still my garage and Ian’s back [...]
