One of the things that keeps us going is the constant stream of messages we get from you. To help us get to know what you want a bit better we've decided to ask you in a more formal way, so we've just opened an online survey. You can find it at www.brimbrothers.com/survey. To help repay you for giving us 5 minutes of your time everyone who completes the survey can enter a draw for one of two Edge 510 bike computers.

So just a very short update to confirm that we're still working to bring our Zone power meter to you. We're still doing lots of testing and making many small refinements to hardware and to software as we move towards production. Launch is planned for the middle of this year, but there are still some unknowns that could shift that a bit. As we've said before, it's a long slow road but we have to make sure it's right. The responses and emails we get confirm to us that that is critically important for you.

The purpose of the Zone power meter is obviously to measure power, but in order to do that it has to measure forces and motion in quite a lot of detail. This means that on the way to producing a power figure the Zone generates some very interesting information about how the rider is interacting with the bicycle. The standard version of the Zone will not be able to make this extra information available, but we thought we'd let you have a peek at some of what we can see in our lab tests.

We've been getting a growing number of enquiries asking for an update on how we're doing. Apologies for the lack of anything for the last 3 or 4 months, but the only thing we can report is steady progress - very boring. So in the absence of any big announcement, we decided to give you a quick glimpse of some of the things we're working on. We took a few photos of things around us in the Brim Bros labs, and you can see them below.

The question we get asked most often (by a long way) is when will the power meter be available, and many of you are understandably frustrated that it's taking us so long to bring it to a final product. There has even been a few who think that it's taking so long because we're not really making any progress at all. Well, the truth is that we're making significant progress all the time, but there are two main reasons why it looks like we aren't: we had a lot of R&D to do, and we told you about it when we had only just started.

The number of techniques for measuring power transmitted to a bike has grown over the last year or two, with various power meter announcements and launches. Obviously we think our cleat-based system has advantages over all the others (otherwise we wouldn’t be doing this) so I thought it might be interesting to show you how we see the comparison of the various techniques. This might help you to understand how the different ways that power meters work can affect the way you use the power meter and the information you may be able to get from it.
